2026-08-07China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CAMCE), a subsidiary of Sinomach, recently signed a commercial contract for the Bluefields Port construction project with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Nicaragua.
Located in the South Caribbean Coast autonomous region of Nicaragua, the project is to be delivered in two construction packages. Package 1 comprises a multi-functional terminal capable of berthing 50,000-tonne vessels and associated supporting works. Package 2 includes supporting concrete access roads, a bridge, related traffic facilities and landscaping works. Upon completion, Bluefields will become the first large deep-water port with a 50,000-tonne berth on Nicaragua's Atlantic side, as well as the first integrated commercial port along the country's Atlantic coastline. It is expected to break the local foreign trade sector's long-standing reliance on Corinto Port on the west coast and forge a new dual-sea outlet pattern spanning the Pacific and Atlantic oceans — further upgrading the local comprehensive transport system, boosting foreign trade capacity and injecting robust momentum into high-quality regional socioeconomic development.
